CARNAVAL 2007: February 15th to the 20th

 

Te Amo Lucy’s will be changing themes for this celebration. Our hours for Carnaval are as follows: We will be serving our regular breakfast and lunch menu from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, business as usual. We will close at 12:00 PM and reopen again from 5:00 PM to 5:00AM. Our regular dinner menu will be suspended for Carnaval only. During the 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM hours we will be serving tacos, quesadillas, soft drinks and beer only. Food and drink tickets will be sold at the door. After Carnaval on Wednesday the 21st we will be closed for the day to clean up and recharge our batteries. It’s going to be crazy downtown. We hope to see those of you that are willing and brave enough to trek down here. It will be the party of all parties. On Thursday the 22nd we are open for business with everything back to normal…we hope!

This Wednesday falls on Valentine's Day. How appropriate is that! Valentine's Day is a special day for us all and at Te Amo Lucy’s it's even more special. Lucy is preparing a menu befitting this celebration of love and friendship. Javier will be playing guitar and crooning some of your favorite Spanish melodies. This Wednesday Miss Lucy is preparing a pre-hispanic delicacy you are sure to enjoy and long remember. For those of you that have never eaten Huitlacoche you are in for a real treat! See you all this Wednesday.

Mexican Corn Truffle
Huitlacoche (also spelled cuitlacoche) is a fungus which grows naturally on ears of corn (Ustilago maydis). The fungus is harvested and treated as a delicacy. The earthy and somewhat smoky fungus is used to flavor many specialty dishes. Lucy will prepare other specials in the future using this exotic ingredient. Stay tuned!

This Wednesday Miss Lucy is preparing a dish I have never seen in Mazatlan. CONEJO ENCHILADO is an old recipe which originated among the small Pueblos and Ranchos throughout Mexico. It is a specialty which is popular in the city of Hidalgo.

Farm raised fresh (not frozen) rabbit, strips of Nopale cactus, baby potatoes and a special mild chili salsa are added to an aluminum foil pouch and steamed to tender perfection.

Jasmine Thai White Rice mixed with Sweet Corn

A Glass of Vino Tinto or Vino Blanco

This Wednesday is my turn to show my culinary prowess. My mom was a fabulous cook in her own rights. Born in Europe she brought a whole new dimension of cooking into our home. My mother Lili started teaching me to cook when I was about 6 years old. I remember standing on a step stool at the stove just so I could see what was cooking on the burners. Wednesday's special is but one example of what I was taught.

Thanks to all! We sold out in about two hours. This dish was so popular that we will strive to have 6 or so servings available daily. If you would like this dish in the future call a day ahead and we will prepare it for you.

LILI'S ROASTED CHICKEN, 1/2 CHICKEN PER PLATE

Rubbed with a variety of secret spices and roasted to perfection. All of our moms told us not to eat the chicken skin because...well, just because. This is the exception! It's so flavorful and crispy you'll have a hard time listening to what mom told you. No sharing on this special but we'll be happy to pack it to go if you can't eat it all at one sitting. Limited to 40 servings! For the mathematicians in the crowd that would be 20 chickens.

Sunday Breakfast with Jock...

Please join us this Sunday for a great breakfast and the musical stylings of Mazatlan's own "Jock". Jock, as most of you know is a world class sax, clarinet and flute player as well as a passionate teacher. No doubt you have heard him play at any number of clubs around our fair city. Lucy and I are honored that Jock has offered to play our small venue. My sweetheart and I hope to see you this Sunday morning to share friendship, cool music and a hot breakfast.  Two performances: 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Oh and by the way why not try  our special "Jock's Omelet". It's awesome and if you ask him he may share the ingredients of his creation with you!
